Performing Arts Educators Summer Stages Northern Italy

Day 1 - Wednesday – Arrive in Italy - Arrive at Milan Malpensa Airport and transfer to your hotel in central Milan. Check-in to your hotel for 3 night’s accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2 – Thursday - Milan Sightseeing - After breakfast, board your coach for a morning sightseeing in Milan. Pass for example the splendid Duomo Cathedral, one of the city’s most iconic sights, as well as the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. See also sights including the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’, a 15th-century mural and one of the world’s most famous paintings. What’s more, see the Castello Sforzesco, home of Milan’s Renaissance rulers, and La Scala, dating from the 1780s, is one of the world’s best known Opera Houses and played host to Italy’s great composers like Puccini, Verdi and opera singers including Pavarotti.

Day 3 – Friday – Milan Performance Day - Pack up your dancing shoes for your once in a lifetime chance to perform in the heart of Milan. You’ll also have some time to see any more of the city’s sights, to sample some more gelato or buy that dress!

Day 4 – Saturday – Lake Garda & Valpolicella Wines - After breakfast, check out of the hotel and board your coach as we head east across northern Italy. The first stop will be in the beautiful lakeside town of Desenzano. Spend time at leisure exploring the quaint lake-side village and soaking up the scenery before heading to the famous vineyards of Valpolicella. In late afternoon we head to your hotel on the outskirts of Verona and check-in for 3 night’s accommodation on bed and breakfast basis. A 2 course buffet meal is included at the hotel tonight.

Day 5 – Sunday – Verona Performance Day - Verona is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and famous for art, literature and music. A thriving and successful town for most of its history, today smart shops and cafes fill the attractive medieval lanes of the historic centre. There is a lot to see here, from Roman ruins to the so-called 'Juliet's balcony' and the old Roman Arena, one of the largest standing Roman amphitheatres which can seat 15,000 spectators and is still in use to this day! In the afternoon, take your places as you have a chance to perform once again to the Italian public in the heart of Verona.

Day 6 – Monday - Venice Today you will visit the magical city of Venice. Venice is a city shimmering on the waters, a city of painted palaces and serene churches, with canals instead of streets, boats instead of buses, and ornate bridges instead of subways. Discover the Grand Canal, the heart of the city in Saint Mark’s, the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. Also pass by the Palazzo Ducale or Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. With free time to explore the city in the afternoon, in the evening, we head back to the hotel.

Day 7 – Tuesday – Lake Como After breakfast, we board our coaches and make our way back west via the charming town of Bergamo & one of Italy’s most iconic destinations – Lake Como! The old town of Como is still protected by high walls, but is populated by small, interesting local and designer shops and has a 19th century cathedral as well as a beautiful lakeside promenade. In the evening, we’ll head for our last night’s accommodation close to Milan’s Malpensa Airport.

Day 8 – Wednesday – Depart Italy Bid ‘Arrivederci’ to Italy as we board our transfer back to Milan’s Malpensa Airport and you continue your journey back to the US.

It is official. I received the following letter from Mark Jacob, from Performing Arts Educators). I was apprehensive about traveling to Rio anyway for the 2016 Summer Olympics even though we were once again the only performing group invited from the entire state of Texas and one of only seven from the United States. Paris anyone?

Ms. Cindy,
The staff at Performing Arts Educators (PAE) has spent countless hours the past two years in talks, travel, and negotiations with our travel partners and Olympic officials in Brazil to secure the necessary hotels, coaches, performance venues, and tour package to make our Olympic Invitational the best possible experience for our groups. Therefore, it is with great despair that PAE must announce that we are unable to put together the necessary components to ensure a successful Olympic Invitational experience.

The main reason we are unable to develop this Olympic Invitational is price. Two years ago we predicted that, although expensive, the entire experience, including airfare, would cost around $3,500-4,000. The prices that we have been quoted does not allow us to get anywhere near our predicted price. The price rose over 50% of the predicted price.

That is the bad news. We do have good news though too! After realizing that the costs would just be too astronomical to go to Rio, the staff at PAE, wanted to be able to provide two alternate International Performance opportunities. Therefore, as a follow up to our 2014 Summer Stages production at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, we will be producing the following International shows in 2015 and 2016:

• Paris, France Invitational in Summer 2015
• Barcelona, Spain International Song and Dance Festival in Summer 2016

The 2016 International Song and Dance Festival in Barcelona, Spain will combine the talents of the many groups we already partner with from the US, with the talents of groups from all over the United Kingdom and Europe.

As we are happy to announce these two fantastic performance locations, we look forward to discussing with you which show Dance Ltd. would prefer to perform at- Paris 2015 or Barcelona 2016. Final details and itineraries for both Paris 2015 and Barcelona 2016 will be available within the next two weeks at which point we will contact you via email and conference call follow up to discuss your preference in further detail.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to your ongoing interest in our International Summer Stage performances.
